Identify the source of the purchase or lead event
Server-side tracking setup needs an agreed definition of when a purchase exists. A payment attempt, an order record and an accepted payment can be different states. Identify the authoritative business state and its owner. A confirmation screen can be revisited and must not become the sole definition of a new sale.
Apply the same distinction to leads. Clicking a submit button is different from the backend accepting an enquiry. Plan one controlled submission with missing required information and another that is accepted. The expected business event should follow the stated acceptance condition. A captured enquiry also remains separate from the sales team deciding it is qualified.
Write the source system, qualifying state, event name and acceptance evidence in the review record. Use controlled record labels and redacted screenshots. A reviewer should be able to follow the same label from the accepted business state into the browser request and server transmission. Identify who owns that source-state decision and record unresolved gaps in the trace.
Purchase
Compare the agreed order state with its source record. A confirmation page alone is insufficient evidence.
Lead
Tie the outcome to backend acceptance. Keep rejected or incomplete requests separate from accepted enquiries.
Owner
Name who may change the business definition and who must review measurement when that definition changes.

Bring an event dictionary and a redacted acceptance record. We can define a focused review of unclear business states, identities and permission behavior.
Verify value, currency and product data
Server-side payload transformations must preserve the business meaning of value, currency and product information. State whether value means the item subtotal or an agreed total after discounts, and whether shipping and tax are included. A numeric field can be syntactically valid while representing the wrong amount for the report.
Choose controlled orders containing different variants, quantities and discount conditions. Compare the source product identity with the identity sent by each path. Establish whether it denotes a product family or a purchasable variant. When a catalog is involved, ask its owner to confirm that relationship. A familiar display name does not resolve an incorrect identifier.
Treat currency as an independent acceptance field. A missing amount, a price converted to an unexpected string and a stale currency need separate findings. Derive the expected values from the source record. Copying the destination dashboard into the expected-result column removes the independent comparison that makes this check useful.
| Check | Source evidence | Acceptance condition |
|---|---|---|
| Value | Discount, tax and shipping definition | Both paths use the same agreed amount scope. |
| Currency | Order transaction currency | The amount and currency describe the same transaction. |
| Product | Variant identity and quantity | The sent item matches the actual purchasable item. |
Check consent and data scope across both paths
Permission-aware server measurement requires consistent expectations across both paths. Describe behavior before a choice, after permission is granted and after a preference is withdrawn. Record the fields and destinations allowed in each state. Transporting data through a server does not make its collection or onward use unrestricted.
Passing consent information into the server layer and applying it at each destination are separate acceptance questions. Record the permission state, allowed fields and applied decision for every destination. Customer information used for matching needs its own purpose, access and platform review. Hashing or transforming a value is not, by itself, evidence of permission or legal compliance.
Avoid exposing complete contact values in the evidence pack. Comparing field names across the browser request, server transformation and outgoing payload can support many checks without copying personal details. Include error logs in the review. Diagnostic convenience should not quietly create another unnecessary store of customer information.
Test reloads, retries and failed orders
Reliable event delivery needs acceptance scenarios beyond one happy-path purchase. Plan a revisit of the confirmation screen and a replay of the same source event. Unless the source contains another sale, those actions should not represent another purchase. Delivery attempts and business events need distinguishable identities in the evidence.
Separately review declined payments, cancelled operations and checkout sessions abandoned before completion. Reaching a screen does not turn a failed order into revenue. If the integration reads business state after a delay, document how it waits or checks again. Inspect the state condition instead of treating an arbitrary delay as a universal fix.
Also show that two genuine orders remain distinguishable. Testing only duplicate prevention can miss accidental merging of separate purchases. Use controlled fixtures with separate expected outcomes for a repeated delivery and a new order. The reviewer should be able to distinguish another attempt for the same source sale from a different accepted sale, using the recorded identity relationship.
Match test events to the source record
Measurement acceptance review should leave a readable connection between the source record and both event paths. Use a controlled reference label to relate a Test Events observation to its originating order. Visibility alone does not establish correct values or identical treatment in advertising reports. Record the observation conditions and reviewer.
Include scenario, source state, event name, browser identity, server identity, value scope, currency, items, permission state, observed result and decision. Missing evidence is an unresolved check. If documentation access or an integration version remains uncertain, retain that limitation instead of signing it off on the strength of an attractive dashboard.
A matching-quality score can help diagnose supplied fields; it does not prove additional sales or consent compliance. Review operational delivery separately with the server-side tracking release checklist. Correct business events and a maintainable transport layer are related responsibilities with different acceptance evidence.

Frequently asked questions
Will Pixel and CAPI count two sales?
Two paths reporting a sale do not automatically imply two counted sales. Examine the common identity, event name and current platform conditions. Match the source order to both deliveries before claiming that deduplication works correctly.
Should each retry get a new event identity?
A retry of the same business event should preserve its identity; a separate order needs a distinct identity. Verify where the integration creates and retains it. Assigning a new identifier to every attempt can misrepresent repeats as new outcomes.
Does CAPI remove the need to respect consent?
No. Server delivery does not override permission preferences. Review consent propagation, allowed data scope and applicable platform requirements together. A working CAPI connection should not be presented as a compliance certificate.
Does matching quality prove advertising performance?
No. Matching quality is a technical signal about supplied data. Assess sales using source orders and an appropriate evaluation design. A higher score alone establishes neither incremental revenue nor a better campaign result.
Should a failed order emit a purchase event?
If the agreed purchase state does not exist in the source system, a purchase notification should not represent it as completed. Declines, cancellations and incomplete checkouts require their own scenarios instead of inheriting the successful-order behavior.
