Define the business question before choosing a platform
Performance marketing planning should begin with a channel-independent question. Are you explaining product use, making a problem visible or seeking qualified applications for an offer? Objectives within one platform can optimise toward different actions. A viewing-focused test should not be treated as equivalent to a purchasing test.
TikTok’s feed and Meta’s different social placements may require different presentations, but that observation creates neither an age boundary nor a behavioural guarantee. Investigate the actual market, eligible advertising features and how customers engage with the content. A widely viewed organic post does not establish that a paid campaign will be profitable. Define the offer, destination and business outcome first, then identify the assumption the chosen channel will test. That sequence makes disappointing results easier to diagnose than a broad declaration that one platform simply does not work.
TikTok offers more than video-only advertising
Ad creative scope should not force a complete production reset on the assumption that TikTok only accepts video. Its September 2026 Carousel guide describes in-feed image advertising and supported objectives. Standard Carousel includes Spark and Non-Spark scope; VSA Carousel is documented as Non-Spark. Check eligibility in the actual account, market and campaign configuration.
Meta images, video and carousels can also serve different explanations. Available formats are not identical across every objective and country. An image option does not establish that an existing poster will become an effective ad without adaptation. Review product detail, legibility, card sequence and the matching landing experience. A short video also needs an understandable offer, rather than shortness alone. Choose a presentation that answers the customer’s question instead of forcing every campaign into one content template or using an outdated format comparison.
| Decision area | TikTok | Meta |
|---|---|---|
| Format approach | Video and eligible image-carousel setups | Eligible image, video and carousel presentations |
| Content context | A feed-appropriate explanation and demonstration | Adaptation to the selected social placement |
| Delivery identity | Review Spark or Non-Spark conditions | Review account, person and asset authorisation |
| Success measure | Contribution from orders or accepted enquiries | Verified outcomes under the same business definition |

Choose the channel with a production and outcome plan
Share the product or offer, available content and measurable sales outcome. We can connect media, creative and permissions within one practical first-test scope.
Include production capacity in the channel decision
Creative production briefs should state which content will answer which question. For a fictional home-accessory brand, dimensions, placement, material appearance and cleaning can be distinct angles. Rather than create a campaign for every possible detail, choose the important uncertainty first. This scenario is not a real customer result.
A shoot may provide raw material suited to both channels, with separate review of editing, captions and presentation. Blind duplication is different from adapting a shared production source. Connect refresh frequency to actual findings and needs rather than a compulsory calendar rule. TikTok is not guaranteed to fatigue faster for every offer, and Meta does not promise months of efficient delivery from one asset. Put team, approval and source capacity in the scope. Media funding alone does not finance production, and creative variation should remain understandable to the people approving the business claims.
Question to demonstrate
Explain product size, operation or a concrete benefit with evidence appropriate to the claim.
Delivery to adapt
Shared footage may be useful; review opening, cards, captions and placement previews separately.
Evidence to refresh
Customer questions and outcome quality should inform new angles, alongside operational deadlines.
Manage Spark authorisation and music rights explicitly
Creative usage rights production should separate delivery identity from permission to use an organic post in advertising. TikTok documents Spark Ads using your own posts or another creator’s authorised posts. Specify duration, advertising use, region and editing scope in the relevant agreement. Public visibility is not an advertising licence.
Trending audio is not automatically available for commercial use. Check campaign region and usable placements in TikTok’s Commercial Music Library; do not assume that permission obtained for TikTok transfers to Meta. Music outside that library needs the relevant rights established separately. Record permissions for people, voice, customer statements and brand representation with the deliverable. A synthetic or staged experience must not be presented as a real customer’s personal experience. A request for natural-looking content does not remove advertising disclosure or claim-accuracy obligations. Those checks belong in production planning, before an appealing asset becomes difficult to change.

Compare total investment instead of impression prices
CAC, ROAS and MER analysis should not decide from CPM or click price alone. In a fictional example, TRY8,000 in media and TRY4,000 in production create twenty completed orders. Cost per order across those two items is TRY600. Another test buying inexpensive clicks with TRY8,000 does not establish better economics without its order and production records.
Evaluate contribution, returns, fulfilment and new-customer distinctions separately. Keep media, production, usage permission, management and applicable extra charges as different rows. An interface minimum budget and a useful budget for your business question are not the same thing. Check daily delivery and duration limits in the account. This guide provides no representative Turkey CPM or CPC average, nor a claim that one channel always costs less. Your comparison needs consistent periods, objectives and cost scope; otherwise an attractive media-only figure may obscure the more expensive operating model behind it.
Read Pixel, Events API and revenue reports carefully
Server-side tracking setup should validate the transaction as well as the event name. When TikTok Pixel and Events API send the same purchase, deduplication is needed; a consistent event_id for the overlapping event is a documented requirement. Check Meta’s corresponding duplicate-recording risk against its actual implementation. Server delivery neither guarantees complete tracking nor bypasses permission requirements.
Connect value, currency, test orders and actual payment status. Both platforms may attribute the same sale within their own windows, so their reported revenues should not simply be added and presented as store revenue. Reconcile with order or CRM records while explaining delay and returns. A self-reported discovery question may provide context, but is not perfect attribution. Views, followers and engagement do not replace commercial outcomes. Knowing which questions the report cannot answer is part of making a responsible budget decision, particularly when one channel influences later visits elsewhere.
Scope a first test for ecommerce, B2B or a limited budget
B2B lead generation work should not automatically match a platform label to a business model. Ecommerce needs available stock, a clear offer, visual evidence and a functioning purchasing path. B2B may benefit from demonstrations too, but requires company fit, need and an accountable sales handover. TikTok is not restricted to awareness, and Meta is not restricted to remarketing.
Define a first question, owner and affordable loss boundary. Keep the offer and business outcome comparable while allowing each channel an appropriate native presentation; otherwise the experiment may mostly measure poor adaptation. There is no requirement to launch both together. Record a distinct rationale for the second when production and follow-up can support it. Regulated products require separate local-rule and platform-eligibility review. Retain uncertainty when outcomes are sparse; one viral asset cannot establish permanent sales growth or justify assuming that future campaigns will repeat the result.
First, the question
Which uncertainty about explanation, qualified interest or the purchase path should the test resolve?
Next, the evidence
Review suitable content, approvals, permissions and a deduplicated business outcome together.
Then, the investment
Explain continuation, correction and a second channel through economic boundaries and realised outcomes.

Frequently asked questions
Are TikTok ads only suitable for younger customers?
An age stereotype is insufficient. Evaluate market, eligible reach, offer and the customer question. This guide does not claim to have conducted a population or purchasing-power study for either channel.
Is video compulsory for TikTok advertising?
Not for every setup. Current Carousel documentation also describes eligible image advertising. Check objective, market and account conditions; prior use of a file on another platform does not establish automatic eligibility.
Is TikTok CPM lower than Meta CPM?
No representative current market average is supplied here. Interpret impression cost alongside order contribution and total production investment. Inexpensive reach alone does not establish inexpensive customers.
Can I use the same video on both platforms?
Shared production can be adapted where rights and scope allow. Do not assume music licensing applies across platforms. Review editing, captions and previews separately so the asset suits its intended presentation.
Do Spark Ads require creator permission?
Using another person’s organic post requires authorisation. Manage duration, region, advertising use and content claims explicitly. A publicly available post is not automatically licensed for advertising.
Should a small budget test both channels?
It is not compulsory. Define one learning question and affordable risk first. If production, measurement and sales follow-up cannot support two tests, start with a narrower scope and evaluate the second through evidence.
